Parker has always loved cars for as long as he can remember, starting with his large collection of matchbox cars and model sports cars. However, when Parker was ten years old, he saw his first karting race on The Speed Channel and he became immediately and forever hooked on racing.
He begged his parents for a go-kart for two years; they finally gave in and bought him a used go-kart when he was 12 so he could join the local karting association. When he raced in go-karts, he was very quick very soon, but he also always had to work on his own kart unlike all the other kids. He makes it clear that his parents have no knowledge of motorsports, so he was on his own other than his parents and siblings cheering him on at races. As a result of teching his own kart for optimum performance, as well as his unparalleled focus and determination to win, Parker quickly advanced through the ranks of karting.
By the time he was 14, he had spent countless hours now convincing his parents how serious he was about pursuing race car driving as a career. They had to admit he had mastered go-karting in a very short time, but it was Parker's perseverance that got him enrolled in The Skip Barber Racing and then The Advanced Racing Series held at Lime Rock. As a result of his incredible speed, Parker was invited to enter their Regional Championship Races on Columbus Day weekend last year. These would be Parker's first two car races ever. The first race was in a downpour, but Parker quickly discovered that he excelled in the rain. He not only won that race, but he nearly lapped everyone else in it's 35-minute run. The next day brought a wet and dry race with stiffer competition, but he won that race too.
This experience was quickly followed by his attendance at the Speedsecrets' Coaching Camp at Buttonwillow Raceway in November, and it turned out to be an important demarcation line in his brief pursuit of racing. After the second day, Parker was informed that he was the fastest participant at the camp in spite of far more experienced racers in attendance; in fact, they felt he was one of the most naturally talented racers they had ever met. They were fascinated by how Parker's racing pursuit came solely from him and that he had only raced cars twice before this camp. In addition, Parker not only had incredible speed but his technical feedback on the cars they were running was near perfection; he knew exactly what he wanted from the car every session and he was always right. Although Parker's parents were quietly hoping for an assessment that would reduce Parker's racing to a hobby, it was not to be. They were told, emphatically, that Parker should continue to pursue racing as much as possible.
Three months later Parker entered his first professional race car series, The Formula-TR Pro Series, hired his coach, Bob Perona, from Speedsecrets, and joined the newly formed team, Paladin Motorsports to begin racing in March. To date, Parker has nearly always qualified first and run the fastest laps and he has now won seven out of the eight races. His most recent race at the brand new Miller Motorsports Park brought two more wins; in the second race he won with a lead of over 26 seconds.
Parker's short term goal is to join a Formula BMW team either here or in Europe next season, but his ultimate goal is to climb to the top of the open-wheel racing world. If Parker drives his dreams to fruition, he would love to be the first American in nearly three decades to win the Formula One World Championship. In the meantime....he is having the time of his life because, as he says, "I can't think of anything I don't love about racing".
