Parker Kligerman and Alexander Rossi will continue their fight in the 1600 class at Fontana

The Formula TR Pro Series returns to California Speedway this weekend for its second tour of duty at the Fontana-based track following the season opening doubleheader there back in March.

To-date only series leader Parker Kligerman and Alexander Rossi have graced the top step of the podium in the 1600 class, while the rest of the pack will be looking to change that statistic, Kligerman and Rossi remain the drivers to beat.

Paladin Motorsport’s Kligerman heads to Fontana with seven victories under his belt and more importantly, the first of those wins coming on the 2.8-mile road course at California Speedway from the opening rounds of the season back in March. The title-aspirant gave his rivals a taste of things to come on that occasion bagging maximum points courtesy of his two wins, two pole positions and two fastest race laps.

Kligerman hasn’t had it all his own way lately, with Odyssey Motorsports’ Rossi shaking up the form guide powering to two straight wins last month in Nevada. Rossi’s form was first showcased back in Round Four at Buttonwillow, as he denied Kligerman a fourth-straight victory. Despite missing a handful of rounds earlier in the season, Rossi’s return to the series full-time means he’s an ever-present threat for wins and he now sits third in the points following his back-to-back success at the Reno-Fearnley Raceway.

Rossi’s teammate, Tayler Malsam, enjoyed a break-out weekend in Nevada capturing his first series podium with third place in Round Nine, the rookie moving up to fourth in the points ahead of Luis Martinez Jr., who similarly rounded off the podium celebrations in Round 10 behind the dominant Rossi and Kligerman. Billy Goshen failed to find the podium in Nevada, but his consistency moved him up to second in the standings and he remains firmly on the ‘one-to-watch’ listing as the season progresses.

Round 11 of the Formula TR Pro Series takes place at the California Speedway on Saturday, July 15th, with Round 12 held the following day, Sunday July 16th.
