July 19, 2006:Formula TR: Kligerman Leads the Way
at Fontana
The Formula TR Pro Series recently returned to action with Rounds 11 and 12 of the 2006 season at California Speedway. Parker Kligerman led the way, sweeping his class.
Intent on earning his first win in the 1600 class, Luis Martinez Jr. led the 1600 cars to the green flag on Saturday. Immediately battling with series leader Kligerman, the duo began to separate themselves from the field. Dicing for the top spot throughout the 15-lap race, Kligerman was able to find a way past and secure the win. Behind the duo, Billy Goshen, Liam Kenney and Tayler Malsam enjoyed a good battle for the final podium position as well. Goshen, have qualified near the back, recovered and captured the position late in the race.
Kligerman, who set the fastest lap time in the opening race, was the first driver to get the green flag in race two of the weekend. Martinez Jr. having battled for the win on Saturday was unable to contend for the top honours on Sunday, encountering engine problems early in the race. Despite the problem, he recovered from the poor start, which witnessed him lose several positions, to score his second runner-up finish of the weekend. Continuing to show good pace, Goshen once again joined Kligerman and Martinez Jr. on the podium. Alexander Rossi, a three-time winner in the series, came home fourth after battling an electrical problem that regularly shut his car down. Completing the top-five in Round 12 was Kenney, who fended off late challenges by Malsam.
Kligerman continues to lead the 1600 championship standings on the strength of his nine wins. Goshen, despite not visiting the top spot on the podium is second in the standings, followed by Martinez Jr.
The Formula TR Pro Series Championship now heads to Portland International Raceway for Rounds 13 & 14, on July 22-23.
