USAC National Midgets race at Indianapolis
Raceway Park News – From www.arcaracing.com –
December 20, 2007:STATHAM GA - Cunningham Motorsports, one
of the premier driver development teams in stock car racing, announced today
that it will be forming the Cunningham Motorsports Jr. Team, in conjunction with
Dodge Motorsports, to compete in the USAC National Midget Series in 2008.
"I am pleased to announce the formation of CMJT," said Kerry Scherer, managing partner for Cunningham. "We are providing a development platform for drivers that will allow them to start at a very young age and progress from USAC midgets, to ARCA, to the NASCAR truck series without leaving our team. This will allow Dodge and us to keep the development process in house and keep the programs consistent."
Drivers for CMJT were also announced as 17-year-old sophomore
driver Parker Kligerman, already an open wheel champion in the
Formula TR Pro Series in 2006, and 17-year-old rookie
Danielle Dickson, a veteran of several different open wheel catagories.
ILMOR racing engines will be in charge of the motor program.
Heading the program will be long racing coach Bob Perona, who himself has had a long successful career as a driver.
"I'm very happy to be leading this program for Cunningham Motor Sports and Dodge," said Perona. "I feel we have a strong lineup for 2008. We are looking for great things from both Parker and Danielle this season. We also expect to announce a third driver shortly."
Dodge Motorsports, a long time partner of Cunningham Motorsports,
is a strong supporter of the Jr. team.
"Dodge Motorsports looks forward to watching these young
drivers gain valuable experience on the race track, next season,
Chad Hignite of Dodge Motorsports said. "Kerry has
always had a knack for obtaining great talent and then aligning
them with the proper personnel & tools. I couldn't think of
anyone better suited than Cunningham Motor Sports, to provide the
necessary experience to help these drivers achieve their goals."
